We’re teaming up with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to shatter myths about drugs and drug abuse this week.
One of the most common lies about drugs that teens buy in to is that everybody’s doing it. The truth? THEY’RE NOT. And there are plenty of successful, positive role models to prove it. Through our celebrity videos and positive drug prevention curriculum, it’s part of our mission to shatter that myth. Check out these six celebrity role models who champion the message that not everybody’s doing it:
Danyelle Wolf, Team USA National Champion Boxer
NEW! Danyelle Wolf is our first celebrity video release in 2014, and we couldn’t be more excited to have such an inspiring ambassador to help us spread a drug-free message. The dynamite boxer has a laundry list of accolades, and within the past few days won her second consecutive national title- securing her spot on Team USA to compete in Rio 2016:
She’s not doing it.
Terry Kennedy, Professional Skateboarder
Terry Kennedy rose from the ashes of his bad neighborhood to become a pro skater and start his own clothing and music brand, Fly Society:
He’s not doing it either.
Jordyn Wieber, Gold Medal Gymnast
Jordyn Wieber dedicated her entire life to being the best, and achieved that by winning gold in London in 2012:
Think she’s doing it? Nope.
Switchfoot, Grammy-Winning Musicians
Switchfoot has been a popular, award-winning band since the mid-90s- and they show no signs of stopping:
They have better things to do than… it.
Cassadee Pope, 2012 Winner of NBC’s The Voice
Cassadee Pope sang her way to the winner’s circle of The Voice, and is now a major name on the country music scene:
You guessed it- not doing it.
Bethany Hamilton, Professional Surfer and Author of Soul Surfer
Bethany Hamilton has placed in over a dozen surfing competitions, despite being the victim of a shark attack:
Do we even have to say it?
None of them are doing it. So why should teens feel pressured to? These are the stories they need to hear.
